We have been on a many charity rides throughout the Central and Eastern Missouri over the years and my wife and I wanted to do one of our own. She found a charity that was near and dear to her heart as it dealt with dogs and my criteria was it needed to do with Veterans as they put their lives on the lines for our Freedoms!
K9s for Warriors seem to fit the bill as they rescue dogs from kill shelters, train them to be support animals, and then give them to soldiers that come home and are suffering from ailments like PTSD. These heroes give their all and in many cases don't make it home or come back with debilitating injuries both physically and mentally. This organization tries to eliminate their stress with the help of these dogs. The training and care of these animals aren't cheap and we wanted to try and help alleviate some of their headache with a donation.
After finding and securing a location (Cedar Lake Cellars), we started promoting our event. Being I'm from this area, I reached out to as many local businesses as I could to sponsor our event. When the day finally arrived, June 24th, we ended up with 145 SXS and around 375 people show up. We ended up raising $4,000 to donate to K9s for Warriors!!!
We learned a lot about our first event and look forward to continuing our push to help Veteran charities in the future!!!
